So I decided to be daring whilst on our recent trip (to Rexburg) and try sushi. I can now cross that off my 'things to do' list and be grateful I never ever ever ever ever ever have to taste THAT again... ugh. All you sushi lovers, you don't have to worry about me hogging the sushi.... *gag*
And here's a shout out to Heidi! It was great to see you there! (Even if it was over sushi) and sorry I didn't get to say good-bye.... you were driving off as I was trying to explain to Bryson why it's not okay to point at the double leg amputee with only one arm (who was standing no taller than him) and yell, "LOOK MOM!!"

Overheard...
Sorry about the hiatus from blogging.... life has caught up with me recently...
A few funny things overheard:
While driving, we took a turn Bryson wasn't expecting.... his comment:
"Where are we going, in the heck?"
Dallin sure loves Eli. His new favorite thing is to tickle him... he kneels next to him and 'tickles' him saying, "gockle-gockle-gockle!" He is so sweet his baby brother!

Oh Rexburg!
Drat! We forgot our camera when we went down to Rexburg... but our friend Emily took some pictures for us... We went to Rigby Lake one of the days and canoed around... the boys loved it...
Dallin sat on the rocky shore of the lake pretty much the entire time and threw rocks into the water... as soon as there were no more rocks within reach, he'd move a few feet down the shore, sit down, and start throwing again... it was so funny to watch.
So that's all I've got for the entire weekend! I was so bummed we forgot the camera- I wanted pictures of the wedding and us on campus and in front of Papa Kelsey's and at the Idaho Falls Zoo (I met up with my old roomie Emily there- it was so great to see her!)..... we had a great time, even if there are almost no pictures to document it.

stinking emotions
I don't cry at weddings. I'm just not the sappy type- some may call it cold and un-feeling... I prefer to think that I'm just more in control of my emotions. That is, at least, until this last weekend.
Nathan and the kids and I went to Nathan's cousins wedding this past weekend in good ol' Rexburg. Ahhh Rexburg.... birthplace of our love, and home of Papa Kelsey's- quite possibly the best sub-sandwiches EVER! We used to go to eat there every single week and gaze longingly into each others eyes.... oh we were just as pathetic back then as all the numberless doe-eyed couples we saw wandering the streets hand in hand last weekend.
So back to the wedding... I have never cried at a wedding before- not even the slightest spasm in the back of my throat during a wedding, so for me to be sobbing uncontrollably this time required some definite reflection and self discovery.
From where I sat with my sweet husband, waiting for the ceremony to begin, I could see both the brides mom and her dad (Nathan's Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Rob). Over the past eight years of marriage to my husband, I think I've gotten to know these two well enough to know how much they love Jenny, their oldest child and only daughter. As I sat watching first Rob and then Bonnie, I began pondering the emotions they might be feeling. And then I thought of my firstborn... and how quickly he has grown... and that now I have three kids- seemingly in the blink of an eye... And that's when the floodgates opened. How bittersweet it must be to have your child marry- to enter into that stage of life where they really truly are no longer dependent on you- where once their entire existence had depended solely on you... How wonderful for them to progress that step in life, but it just happens all too soon. I just couldn't stop thinking about how fast Bryson has turned into a big kid- and that before I know it, he'll REALLY be grown up- and the tears just kept on flowing.... and I didn't even have any kleenex.
After the ceremony, I sat down next to Bonnie and put my arm around her... she turned to me with tears in her eyes and whispered, "she was so tiny... such a beautiful baby- she loved to pull the books off the shelves... and oh, she loved to go down the slide... and now, look at her! She's married!" It was exactly what I thought she was thinking-
I attempted to regain my composure as I returned to my husband who was looking at me quite strangely by this point. I tried to explain to him what I was feeling, but it was rambling and high-pitched-- I'm not sure he understood... In all fairness, the last wedding we went to, Bryson was not even one year old- he was still a baby- I didn't know yet how fast they grow up... I'm sure I don't really even comprehend just how fast right now, but I DO know that I won't be able to make it dry-eyed through any more weddings.
Why does time go by faster and faster the older we get? This third child has made it really hard to find a balance between the demands that are placed upon me.... most importantly, balancing quality time with my kids and everything else. But that's the challenge- I have to make this time count because it DOES pass by all too quickly- and the memories are what make them precious... so I'm recommitting myself and re-prioritizing- because there's only this one time that my kids will be babies, and I want have great memories of it.

Triplets
I've had several people comment on my blog how much my boys all look alike. It occurred to me that probably most of you out there in blogging land don't know just how much more they looked alike as babies... they were like triplets separated by 4 years. So for your viewing pleasure, we'll play guess that baby... I'll post the answers at the end....

And now for the answers.... drum roll please

Dallin's Birthday
When I was expecting my second child, I was kinda worried... I carried a lot of guilt with that worry because I didn't think that there was any way that I could possibly love my second as much as Bryson.... How could it all be as special the second time as with the first? Because it was all soo special the first time around!! Friends and family reassured me that I would love this child as much, and that it is as special. But I didn't believe them. I was even so cavalier as to insist to my mother that she must love my oldest brother the most! But, I told her it didn't hurt my feelings, because I had my own child, so I understood.... she was quite taken aback, to say the least. Maybe it was just pregnancy that had me not believing people... at 20 weeks, when the ultrasound tech told us the baby was a boy (it was circumstantial evidence *grin*), I didn't believe her either! That is, until 32 weeks, when I had another ultrasound and it was DEFINITELY a boy...
It was all as special because it was all it's own experience. I hope I can convey just how special and wonderful it is the second time around... It was a different labor, a different delivery, and a different baby who has gone about his little life in his own way. His first smiles, first giggle, learning to crawl, walk, talk (the bit that he does).... it's all been unique to him, and I have been so privileged to get to see him as he discovers life and this world.
I'd love to post some of Dallin's responses to his 'favorites' as I did Bryson... but I'm pretty sure all of his answers would be "dee-dee" and "doe-doe"... not the most verbal child... So I'll do my best and guess-
Favorite thing: Dee-dee (his favorite soft blue blankie that he sleeps with- little does he know there's two... so I can always have a clean one...)
Favorite drink: wa-wa (this boy drinks water ALL THE TIME!)
Favorite food: pssss (grapes... too bad they give him diarrhea when he's eats too many)
Best friend: Bah-bee (Bryson) and (Eye-lie) Eli (he really does love his brothers... he kisses Eli all the time)
Favorite show: Gae-go (Diego... thanks to Bryson)
Favorite animal: ga-ga/ooh-ooh (dog/woof, woof... I think the words are one in the same to him)
Favorite book: My First Word Board Book by DK(??) (he sits and just looks at the pictures, turning the pages ever so slowly...)
Even though his speech isn't very developed yet, he 'talks' all the time... Dallin is such a joy- he has the sweetest little smile and funniest personality... I would love to know what this little guy is thinking sometimes- it is so entertaining to watch him figure things out.
And then, on this day, two years ago, learned just how wrong I was-
